Cleanrooms vary in size. Contamination Solutions, Inc. has been involved with projects as small as 100 sf and as large as 40,000 sf. Projects have included rooms for the pharmaceutical, electronic, medical device and optics industries.
Portafab is our vendor for modular wall systems. High tech manufacturing processes are often require modification and expansion. The modular system allows the cleanroom to be expanded and reconfigured.
The wall panels are finished when they arrive at the jobsite, eliminating any dust particles generated by sanding and painting.
Wall panels are 3" thick and can have a variety of finishes including painted metal which provides durability and a surface that is easy to clean.
The modular wall system can be depreciated quicker than stick built construction.
Seldom are two cleanrooms alike. The medical device injection molding industry often requires a moveable crane in order to change out the different molds. The above project an interior ceiling height of 16'.

Cleanrooms are classified according to the level of particles that can be measure inside the room using a lazer particle counter. The above room has an ISO Class 4 rating. Each opening in the ceiling will have a HEPA filter. The Class 4 room requires a high volume of air. Based on the cleanliness of the process in the room, an air change ratio might be 350 air changes per hour or higher.
Cleanrooms are classified from Class 3 through Class 8. Class 3 is the "cleanest" cleanroom classification while Class 8 is the "dirtiest" cleanroom.
Note in the room above that columns were enclosed using wall materials to create interior return air chases.
Since cleanrooms require a high volume of supply air, double walls are often used to transport the air to the retun air duct. The room above used a double wall to function as a return air cavity. A double window was used in the wall. The outside glass can be cleaned by opening the interior window.
Below is an example of our standard windows. Windows are great for allowing visitors to see the cleanroom operation without allowing them into the actual cleanroom.
