A medical device manufacturer wanted to build a Class 10,000 cleanroom without any internal support columns and with the ability to walk across the ceiling of the room to access mechanical services. An internal gowning room was an additional requirement. The photo shows how all three requirements were satisfied. A steel beam was used to span the cleanroom and carry the weight of the ceiling structure. Walkable ceiling panels were installed in the structural grid to enable access above the ceiling. The plant maintenance crew can walk across the ceiling and access filters, install new electrical or compressed air lines without compromising the integrity of the cleanroom.
